I was hell-bent on seeing the World of Color show on our first trip to Disney California Adventure. And making sure we had a decent viewing space for it where the kids wouldnÔÇÖt miss the leaping Technicolor fountains and their favorite Disney characters projected onto screens of mist. Acting on a tip from a fellow tourist at the hotel, we picked up Fastpasses first thing Tuesday for the single show that night (summertime, peak seasons and weekends offer two or three nightly shows).
The special picnic meals wouldnÔÇÖt even have come into play if I hadnÔÇÖt spotted someone carrying the World of Color re-useable tote the meals are packaged in. I loved the tote. That was the deciding factor in purchasing the picnic last-minute from the Golden Vine Winery and not the special WOC Fastpass thatÔÇÖs included. Though if itÔÇÖs a busy day at the park and Fastpasses run out before you can snag one, purchasing a picnic is a method of getting reserved┬áviewing for the show. Online advance reservations for meals is usually the safest way to go, but clearly itÔÇÖs possible to walk up and get them during the slower season.
$14.99 was reasonable for the adult ÔÇ£Taste of AsiaÔÇØ picnic (cold miso-glazed salmon, soba noodles, mandarin orange cake) but seemed overpriced for the childrenÔÇÖs selection (pbj, apple slices, and a cupcake).┬á┬áA non-alcoholic drink is included. Take note: one Fastpass ticket per meal is distributed — and everyone in your party must have a ticket to gain access to reserved viewing. We opted to use the Fastpasses we’d grabbed in the morning and found, in late February, that it wasn’t necessary to line up well ahead of showtime for good views. (I hear queuing early during busy seasons is absolutely necessary.) We managed to get front-row seating right on Paradise Bay (in the ÔÇ£blueÔÇØ section and yes, in the ÔÇ£splash zoneÔÇØ. Luckily, the wind was kind to us that night.).
World of Color was an incredible show with music and images that lingered in our ears  and thoughts for weeks after the trip.
Location: The 28-minute show plays at Paradise Pier in Disney California Adventure Park, Disneyland Resort. Check the park’s Entertainment Times Guide for exact showtimes.
Touring Tip: Navigating the many viewing and dining options for the show can be overwhelming, but itÔÇÖs crucial to do your research ahead of time. This excellent article gives you all the details.
