A stay at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside’s Alligator Bayou

2013 will go down in Mouse Holiday history as the last year our family fit into nearly all of the moderate-level resort hotel rooms (the exception being the Fort Wilderness cabins, if you choose to lump them in the same category). This is incredibly bittersweet for us. On the one hand, our family has now outgrown the majority of hotel rooms in the Walt Disney World Resort. On the other hand…we no longer have to wedge a Pack ‘n Play into the room, and all family members can be expected to sleep through the night. So, yes, bittersweet.

A stay at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

MH disney's all star movies resortAt a snug 260 square feet, our room at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort was one of the two smallest hotel rooms our family has ever stayed in (the other being our room at Disney’s Pop Century Resort on a previous trip). We were certainly crammed in tightly: adults in one full bed, two preschoolers in the other, and an infant wedged into a crib between the dresser and the closet area. Good thing we weren’t used to much personal space!

But the reality of our Disney vacations is that no matter our accommodations, we wind up spending very little time in our hotel room. All-Star Movies Resort – a value-level resort – fit the bill for what our Mouse Holiday family needed at the time: budget rates and theming with dynamic kid appeal! Super-sized Toy Story characters, playful Herbie: The Love Bug-inspired splash pads, and Sorcerer Mickey presiding over the swimming pool made for an atmosphere of pure fun. (more…)

Wishful Thinking: Polynesian Resort’s Grand Ceremonial House fountain

Rumors have been floating for months about the changes coming to Disney’s Polynesian Resort. These changes come packaged along with the new Disney Vacation Club units slated to open in the next few years. Among the more disconcerting of these modifications – at least to those Poly loyalists – is the rumored refurb of the Great Ceremonial House. There’s been plenty of speculation that the giant rainforest planter in the heart of the GCH will be removed. (more…)
